What inspired you to start a sustainable fashion line?
Since I was very small I loved nature, walking through the woods, jumping on the river rocks, the birds singing, so when I decided to do fashion, I thought I should do it in a different way. Fast fashion is one of the industries that most damages our planet and people. I love design and I love nature so I have to do it in a way that I can respect both ideas.
What is your company’s mission?
We would love to stay little. Continue with the main idea of making unique designs and small collections. We really believe that the real beauty resides in us as we are. We would love to create a network of artisans and collaborate with them in the creation of our designs, helping the local and artisan people not to disappear.
What’s the most challenging thing about running an ecofashion company?
In my case, because I travel and design, the most difficult thing is to make sure the organic certified fabrics arrive to me while I am traveling. When I designed the JARDÍN BOTÁNICO ecofashion collection, I was in the Dominican Republic and it was so difficult to organize everything.
Other than your own, which sustainable fashion brands do you like?
I love how comfy the are shoes from Natural World Eco, or My Faldas, Xiro Atlantic Coast, Aiby Craft, there are a lot of original and sustainable brands that I like.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you or your company?
My name is Olga. When I finished my career in fashion design I just decided to travel around to get to know other cultures and local habits. For the last four years, I’ve been living in four different countries. I’ve seen in all them the importance of people wearing something nice and feeling beautiful. But at the same time, I understand the costs of the fashion industry for the people and for our planet.
Last year I decided to create my first ecofashion collection on my own. I wanted to do a little bit for a rightful fashion world so I decided to make my collection with certified organic fabrics.
My collection JARDÍN BOTÁNICO has been made piece by piece in my little home studio in the Dominican Republic, where I lived the past year. The buttons and accessories were made by a local artisan in coconut. Coconut is very common in the Caribbean countries. Right now, I’m living in Sicily where I would like to continue my adventure, for now…
