How long have you been in business?
Redemption Market was founded in 2013.
How did you come up with the name of your company?
We started our business in response to a plea from a group of women in Cambodia, who having been rescued from sex-trafficking, were now looking for a place to sell the handbags they made in their rehabilitation program. We now work with twelve distinct groups, but in every case, there is a situation of great darkness or sadness, whether it be trafficking, modern-day slavery, dirty water, or poverty. Our goal is to take what was intended for evil and turn it around for good. “Redemption Market” is the place where the sadness is redeemed for happiness and the darkness redeemed for light.
What is your company’s mission?
We strive to offer products that are fashion-forward as well as accessible to all income levels. It is our belief that when the consumer is educated about the issues, she will want to make ethical choices when purchasing her clothing.
Who is your customer?
Our customer is the woman who wants to purchase long-lasting high-quality products. She cares about craftsmanship and detail. She chooses items that are unique and attention-getting.
What is something you wish people knew about sustainable fashion?
I wish people knew that sustainable fashion could be both beautiful and affordable!
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you or your company?
I started my business alone as a woman, and as a mom of teenagers. I want to encourage other women and other moms not to fear being entrepreneurs and small business owners! Take one step at a time, and before you know it, you will have an amazing business that is helping people around the world!
